After watching this video on youtube of a Honda ATV engine being destroyed because of a oil filter being installed backwards, I'm glad Yamaha use canisters filters. Sure seems like a dumb design where it would be so easy to make this kind of mistake.

Many manufacturers used, and still use cartridge type oil filters, including Yamaha.
Yamaha only started using canister type oil filters in the early 2000's. And not all models got them, even today. This includes their ATV, motorcycle, 4-stroke snowmobiles, outboard motors, etc.... their complete engine lineup.

Cartridge type oil filters work. And a person can tell when they are installed incorrectly, if they paying attention.
