Well the nut has finally been cracked! Big thanks to Transam355 for finding the last supplier! This thread is about not getting ripped off for the indivdual parts in clutching by being forced to buy a kit at INFLATED prices. This thread is NOT about clutch machining! It is also Not about any kits with sheaves. Let's keep this thread about the cheapest way for us to buy:
1) Secondary springs
2) Roller weights
3) Stall springs
4) Shims
All (non sheave) clutch kits contain one or more of these parts and none contain anything else (unless you want to count a little pack of grease and instructions).
Anybody knowing of better prices for these components should post up the supplier (NO direct links!)
Hopefully this thread can save $$$ for a guy starting out to modify his clutching. Don't ask what spring you need or what weights in this thread. There are a hundred other threads like that or start your own thread. Let's try to keep this about WHERE to find the parts and not get ripped off.
I called up Hauck Powersports this morning and they wanted to sell their package kit of secondary spring and 500RPM wetclutch springs for $60, they then said they would also sell the wetclutch springs for $6 each or $36 for the 6 necessary in a 700 Grizz. This now knocks the EPI and Highlifter Clutch Kits flatout on their butt. EPI and Highlifter clutch kits contain a secondary spring, 8 lighter weights and the 500 rpm stall springs.
Highlifter kits-$235
EPI kits-$200
They are all made by EPI
So you can buy any secondary spring for $25 from EPI, 8 weights from ronayers for $30-40 and 500 rpm stall springs from Hauck for $36. Even with shipping for these small items from 3 places you still save around a $100.
Dalton Clutch Kit- consists of ONLY 8 lighter weights. $104, you can buy the same or better OEM weights from ronayers for $30-40
Grunt Clutch Kit- consists of ONLY 4 lighter weights. $46, you can buy the same or better OEM weights from ronayers for $15-20
Torque Monster Clutch Kit- consists of 8 weights and ONE shim. $66, you can buy the same or better OEM weights for $30-40 from ronayers and 3 shims on ebay for $9 or even cheaper locally. One shim doesn't cut it- you need two 1mm and one .5mm shim to find out what your atv will accept or need.
Anyone knowing of more kits post them up. Anyone knowing of better prices on weights or shims post it up. EPI seems to have a lock on secondary springs and Hauck on 500RPM stall springs. EPI also sells 1000RPM stall springs.
Saving money with this thread allows us to spend it on OTHER MODS:rocker:
Shims- Like I said you really need two 1mm and one .5 when you go to find out what it will take and what you like. They are sold by Yamaha part suppliers and are used in snowmachines.
Yamaha part#s:
90201-222FO #for.5mm
90201-225A4 #for 1mm
They are also sold in some bearing or machine shops and are called arbor shims and the size you want are 20mmX35mmX1mm and 20mmX35mmX.5mm
They are also on ebay for $8.95 and you get two 1mm and one .5mm for this price.
You can also find them sometimes in hardware stores- the right size washers. Be very careful of this method as some washers are punched out of plate steel and the thickness across the washer can vary. Have a good set of calipers to measure it.
We NEED to find a supplier that will sell roller weight covers. It sucks we have to buy the whole weight to get new covers when they flatspot or crack. We also need to know what the actual gram weight of the weights sold in all these kits so post it up if you know them
That's all I got. If ya can't figure out what to do with the cash I just saved ya PM me for my paypal account number:rocker:
I'm just going to keep adding new info in the post as it comes.
When ordering the 500rpm wetsprings from Hauck you will have to call them or email as they don't list them on there website yet. Clutch weights are the items that people need to help find the best prices on. We need the best prices on 14-16-18 gr weights.
Yamaha 350 has 6-16gr weights
400-450 has 8-14gr weights
550/600 has 8-16gr weights
660 has 8-18gr weights
700 has 8-20gr weights
These are the online part sites I checked for weights:
ronayers
cheapcycleparts
stadiumyamaha
babbit'sonline
mrcycles
bikebandit
partshark
ronayers is in second place. Only one of these sites even has 550 parts listed (16gr) so the 350/600 grizz also has 16gr weights and that's what we need a better price for.
14gr- $4.46 each listed under 2008 450 clutch parts
16gr- $6.46 each listed under 2000 600 clutch parts
18gr--$3.82 each listed under 2008 660 clutch parts
Partshark is the new leader in low priced weights:
14gr-$4.30 each listed under 2005 450 clutch parts
16gr-$6.22 each listed under 2000 600 clutch parts
18gr-$3.68 each listed under 2005 660 clutch parts
It's also possible to make your own lighter weights from your stock ones and spend nothing. You need an accurate gram scale though. You pop the metal roller out of the cover and drill 4 holes, spaced equaly around the metal weight (+)
Start with 1/16" bit then increase bit sizes to reach desired weight.
People have done this since I've been reading the forums. It's also possible to machine the inside of the metal to remove weight.
I'm going to pull info anyone posts below and try to consolidate in this post with up to date BEST PRICE.

We need to find a cheaper price on a 16gr weight- they are in the 350-550-600. List any online source (no links) you check so I can eliminate them.
We also need to know what weight and secondary spring comes in EVERY kit.
