Yea I am confused on titles as well. I live in TX and I dont know if the private seller just has to sign the back of the title and hand it over and thats good enough or if he has to sign it and i have to go stand in line at the DPS and get it taken care of.

Here in TX, i read today that offroad vehicles such as dirt bikes and ATVs dont get charged the value presumption tax. That tax is where they tell you whats it worth and you pay 6.25% or whatever on that value... Good thing it doesnt apply to ATV's....

Anyone else know anything?

Varies by state, in Wyoming, any year that meets road requirements (proof of ownership and paid taxes, lights, horn, mirror, width, etc...) can be titled. Some states do not title ATVs at all (any year).

They come with a MSO (manufactures statement of origin) from Yamaha and your state titles them (or doesn't title them) according to state law.

In some states You have only registration, that has to be sign on the back for transfering the ownership, some are asking ( in addition) for bill of sale ( quick note- what, vin, condition, price, old owner's name and new owner's name).
When I bought mine they tax me up only per value on bill of sale ( not book value):lala:, 6% from it. If I want to get title I think I would have to pay extra.
You can sign registration on the back that says TRANSFERABLE.

In Oregon, titles on strictly OHVs are optional if you own them outright. Obviously they are a good idea if anything ever happend and a theft occurred or ownership dispute came up. Also, they may be required by the insurance company if you have it insure or the finance company if you have a loan on it.

Both of ours were purchased outright, so I don't have either of them titled, yet, but I'll get around to it pretty soon here, just in case.

As they can not ever be made street legal in Oregon, there is no vehicle registration. There are 2 year permits required for riding on public land, however, which is de facto registration, obviously. But it's cheap, only like $10 for 2 years, and it does not require that the vehicle be titled.

all i got was a bill of sale. i bought my 06 660 from yamaha. i financed it and wound up paying it off a couple of months later, didnt get a title from the bank. so when i bought my 07 700 (paid cash, from an individual) he asked if it had a title. (it was financed) i told him i doubt it b/c my 06 didnt, he said he'd check and mail it to me if it did. never heard anything, so i assumed it didnt. now i lost his number. am i screwed?
