1991 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4X4 - Damaged axle threads HELP

Hey everyone!

I recently got a 1991 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4X4 project ATV and I've been working to restore it, rebuilt the top-end and got it running after sitting for over 10 years and now I am slowly getting to other repairs.

The other day I found that the axle threads on the rear right side (rear break side) are damaged. That's the side where the #25 nut screws on (diagram below). I want to try and re-thread those threads, but I can't find the correct threads size.

I think that might be 16mm x 1.50 (at least that's the one on the 400), but I measured the diameter of the axle and it's 15mm, so I am just guessing here.

Any ideas what the correct thread size is or where to find that info?

Go to partzill.com, maybe you can buy the nut; then go to the hardware store to determine the thread size by trying bolts.

I actually have a couple of those nuts and I have a tread checker at home, but it doesn't go up to that size, neither does the one at home depot and they don't carry metric bolts that big unfortunately, but thanks for the idea, I can try ordering a couple big bolts online and test with the nut.

Try a bolt supplier for heavy equipment.
