Hello everyone one new too this form and everyone is very informative and helpful. With that being said I'm interested in putting new clutch in the ol girl. I've read a lot of other threads an have a good idea of what to do. I weight around 250 I usally ride with a pasanger with a combined weight of approximately 390. My thought was to put a white spring,18g weights and 1.5 of shim. I do about the same of trail and mud riding. Is that a good combo and would I need anything else?:gcrules:

Also another question would I need stall springs? Are they required if u put the whitend secondary spring and shim?

Help Anyone ?? I'm desperate. .to know I'm ready to order parts. information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience with the clutch yet, but I've been doing a lot of reading and searching on here, and that sounds about right(except maybe the spring?)
I'd love for someone to guide you in the right direction because I currently have 32" silverbacks and am thinking about going to 29.5 2s myself.
So I would probably be looking at the same setup you go with.

i just orderder the white spring and the shim kit. im going to try that first before doing weights. when installed ill let you know my opinion on how it goes . as far as tires go i love the ol2's im running skinnys with offset wheels.

There is alot of tire/clutch threads floating around prob with the exact setup your after. I would do white spring, machined clutch, as much shim as you can fit, prob do 8-14g weights and a pipe/chip/filter at minimum. Stalls will help some in the thick stuff but wear you wet clutch more. After that you can expect to break axles so count on upgrading those.

im OK with the torc it has now i just want a little more umph as it had with the stock tires. i order the white spring and the shim kit. im gonna start with 1.5 of shim then maybe go too 1.7 if its not enough. im trying to do everything low budget and not go too crazy that im breaking axles every time i romp on it

Those tires arw going to take a HUGE chunk of your power away. You have to compensate by doing mods. Your going to wreck alxles by just running those tires, clutch mods are not. A spring and shims will not be enough to turn those tires effectivly.

Yes they will. I have run a 2mm shim and a white spring for years now. I ran OL2s skinny/wide for a long time but switched to OL1s because I was breaking axles and wearing out steering components. I REGRET THAT DECISION. I'd still much rather have the OL2s but all skinnies.

Where in Florida are you?

If you say so. Therewas no. Wayi was runningstock weights with only shims and a spring. Tried it once and toasted my wet clutch.

That's crazy. Had 8-14g weights and found it powered out in the heavy stuff. Ill never put 30s on a stock mtr again. Unless there zillas or something light.

I got mine right from EPI and the shims off of Ebay.

All I run is a 2mm shim and an EPI white spring. I very rarely run over 30 mph, nor does it like to, so keep that in mind if you like to go fast. I only run this option because I am a cheap skate, if I had the funds, I'd hit up JBS for a machined setup.

Ol nasty I live in milton itsl in between crestview and pensacola. I think the white spring and shim will do good also I can still pull wheelies now with everything stock other than k&n airfilter.

I barely every ride that fast either. Living in fl it's tight trails and a lot of mudd and washouts. But just wondering if you put a little less shim than 2 mm say 1.5 or 1.7 will it help a little on top speed? And do you know what your top speed is?

Not sure on either.

Guys I am running 29.5 skinny OL2s on sti beadlocks(for about 150 miles). Extremely heavy setup. I have been modifying my cvt accordingly. I have bbk and cam so I have a little more power but this is what I run.

I have coop45 #2&#3 mods done to my cam plate and sheave. I have ran 1mm of sheave and a old belt with gold spring & 16gram greasless rollers. That setup was pretty good but wore a hole through my cvt cover (had to buy new lol)

I am going riding this weekend and I will be using my new O.E. belt, gold spring, 16gram greasless rollers w/.5mm shim.

When I ran my 28"zillas I ran no shim and 18gram rollers, it had all kinds of power. I have to switch up that setup this weekend for our next mud ride.

Sorry for the delay I have been pretty busy at work and on personal junk to post this sooner.

NOTE : CHECK YOUR BELT RATIO. Mine was about 3.1 whatever but after the ride that ate a hole in the cover I reachecked it and it was up to 3.3something

well this afternoon i fired the ol girl up and my top speed as the dash read i was goin 50mph all stock performance wise other than k&n and the tires are much larger than stock, so i was goin a few mph faster the dash was not calibrated to accommodate larger tires. but honestly not worried about goin very fast is a atv not a street bike!when spring and shim are installed i will give a top speed for all that would care to know. thanks everyone for the input it really helps!! im just takings baby steps. a little at a time to figure out what works for me without spending the powerbill. anyone else would like to give more opinions pleaase do !! this seem to be a a topic very unkown to the new guys as myself.

Use a hand held GPS to read top speed as there is no way to calibrate for large tires.
