Whats the average amount of milage before the grizzlys are needing an an engine overhaul? 10k 20k?

It depends on the care the machine has recieved, and how it was ridden, of course, but our local independent repair guy tells me grizzlys usually go 10 to 15 k. He sees some 20 to 25k, and one over 30k that was abused on a ranch ! From what I have seen, nothing is tougher than a grizzly.

With everything put aside other than the engines, it sounds to me like Honda makes better engines. I have heard story after story of Honda engines lasting from 30,000 to 60,000 miles. I have personally ridden 2 1999 polaris 500's with 15,000 miles on them and they haven't had any problems and the engines in them were still running strong. But then again, I don't ride mine really hard like many do. I ride more trails than mud and I expect them to run longer than 10 to 15k miles before an overhaul is due. And with the price of fuel, it may take 10 years to get mine to 10,000 miles anyway.

If my engine doesn't get to some high mileage mark because I took it through the mud too much, or drove it too hard, then I can accept this. I'd rather go out and have fun with my ATV then let it sit in the garage and baby it. JMO.

I am not trying to create havoc. Everyones riding style is different. I ride mostly trails, 95% of the time. So comparing to those riding mud, I would think a Grizzly would get closer to 20,000 miles before an overhaul and paybe 25,000. I have seen polaris with 15,000 miles on them because I have ridden them. They still going strong, just everything else has to be maintained. I just want to get my monies worth out of it barring any catastrophies like an accident or something that I can't control.

So if you expect to do overhauls at 10 to 15,000 miles on grizzlies that are used for mudding. What might or could be the average mileage for one that has been ridden on trails?

I know there are other factors going into this. I understand that one engine will be different from the other. I am a machinist, and know that there are tolerances in manufacturing and tolerances in the material being used to build the engines so no 2 engines are exactly the same. I machine parts and sub-assemblies for an airplane engine manufacturing company.
