Another option is to adjust the cable up at the rear brake lever to bypass the shift interlock and then you don't have to bend or remove anything. It is quick and easy. Not saying this is the best way just another way to do it.
I'm sorry but you're dead wrong! This IS the best way to do it in my opinion! I have been searching all day for a solution to my grizz not shifting in and out of park easily (and by easily I mean I thought I was going to break the lever once or twice) and most of the solutions involved taking apart the bike to bend or cut the tab for the interlock, or to disconnect or remove the cable! I did as you said and just loosened the cable adjuster by the handlebars with a pair of channel locks (I'm a plumber, and hey it's my go to tool) and an 8mm wrench. It now works like butter!

Thank you! I was sitting by the fire have a cold beer when I read this, went to my garage, grabbed two wrenches, and back to the fire. It's amazing how easy it is to shift now.

Note to others, on my 2013 it's the skinny cable off the brake lever. You'll see a rubber cover about two inches from the lever assembly. That rubber pulls back along the cable to reveal the adjustment nuts. Just loosen the jamb nut and you can adjust with your fingers until you can shift freely. Then tighten the jamb nut. Literally less then 1 minute of work.

I'm curious... why not just remove the interlock tab?

Well I see I'm a little late in posting but a big X2 on just adjusting the cable. I really can't see how there would be a quicker, easier, cleaner way of doing it. I adjusted mine a few weeks ago and it took me longer to grab the wrenches than it did to adjust the cable. I still find myself using the brake to shift now and then but I'm glad I did the adjustment anyway.

Def not claiming it to be the case, but I remember reading that the adjustment may not be permanent.. something about the cable stretching. Didn't make much sense, but bending the tab took me maybe an extra 10 min. Ehh. 20 ways to skin a cat. All easy. All TOTALLY worth it.

You're loosening the cable not tightening, how would it stretch? And if it did it would just make it better not worse!

I cut just the front tab off, doing so allows it to shift freely between R,N,H,L but also makes it so that you still have to use the brake to get it out of P. Makes me feel better when I'm towing since the Grizz doesn't have a parking brake.

I like this idea the best! :icon_ goofy:

THANK YOU! everyone wants to cut/remove/bend things when all you have to do is adjust the cable out by the handlebars!! 2 8mm wrenches and a couple turns and it's done...
Just used this Thread to do the Shift Interlock Brake Bypass modification, today, sooooo much better now. Thanks to everyone for the various methods to achieve this.

Took all of 30 seconds to complete once I figured out the rubber sleeve covering the adjusting nuts is a 2 piece rubber sleeve with the top about 2" long and the bottom about 1" long and they are just pushed together... slide them apart, 1 up and 1 down to adjust, then push back together.

Since my rubber sleeve had not been separated in 6 years the joint between the 2 pieces was not visible. Sprayed a little silicon spray inside the rubber sleeve to make it slide better and then realized the sleeve was 2 pieces.

If I decide I want to restore it back to using the brake lever, is simple enough to do without taking anything apart except for separating the rubber sleeve. Less than a minute to undo by tightening the cable.

I think my grizzly (2012 700 EPS ) has developed the same thing I am unable to shift into reverse or park. And when I am able to muscle it into reverse the motor only revs (when I hit the throttle) like I'm in neutral. Is this shift interlock? From the all the threads I'm assuming that this is a common problem??

You could try to adjust it and see if it helps, I just bent my tab and it's been smooth shifting ever since.

I know I'm really really late to this party but to do this do you have to jack it up off the ground? My 2013 550 started being really hard to shift into reverse the last couple times plowing snow. TIA

When i bought my 2017 Grizz this "option" (the cable) was removed or just not fitted from the dealer, there are quite a few bike's that are not fitted with this cable over here....sounds real annoying.

2017 and up do not have the shift lock.
I did the cable adjust with 2 wrenches. So so easy.
On my 2016 it meant taking her head light shroud off but that was just 2 screws. Still easy.
