How do mud lites handle compared to stock tires? I've heard they dont handle well and ride like crap. Is this true?

They do handle poorly at very low speeds (8mph and under) on hard packed surfaces. At trail speeds or soft (sand and mud) surfaces that ride great. They do not like deep sand because they dig down too much (doing what they are designed to do) trying to find something to grip on to. You can dig a deep hole very quickly in the sand if you are not careful. The XTRs ride much better but cost more as well. The mud lites are great tires when used where they are designed to run.

I have run the Mud Lites, XTR's and now on my Bighorns. So far The XTR's will take you everywhere but they have a weaker sidewall. I have not been able to break the Bighorns yet. I like the Bighorns for an all around robust bulletproof tire. Plus the Bighorns do better on the rocks and logs.

I've read a ton of positive stuff about the bighorns, I just don't like how they look![/b]
I agree with Onrope. I've had 25" Mudlites, 25" MST's and now 26" Bighorns. I didn't care for the Mudlites, but the MST's were a great tire especially in the snow but the Bighorns are my favorite tire so far for the mix of trail/hardpack/rocks/mud that i normally ride. I kept the MST's for my winter tire but i want to try the Horns in the snow a little before i change them over.

i have 25"xls on the grizzly and so far they have been great. look like dinky tires with the awesome fender clearance on the grizz. they handel great on trails, wearing good, no real mudders by no means but can hold there own. i love the look/reviews of big horns, but i am still iffy on them.

Are you going by pictures or have you actually seen them mounted? You will have try pretty hard to find any faults with the Bighorns (except deep mud), when they showed up I couldn't believe how much better they look in person!

You are right the Plug Lites look good....But I am not in it for a fashion show here. When I ride I need to know I can depend on my equipment. I just never had that confidence with the Plug Lites.[/b]
Onrope thanks for the currant pics are those 26"0r 27" Horns.I just ordered Grizzly #2 and will being ordering a set of Bighorns for this one the other has 25" mudlites but I want something good all around that can also fly down a fire road without feeling twitchy

IMO , If you get the Mudlites , better get the super size tire repair kit .

You couldn't give me a set of mudlites after 2 sets , within 70 miles , 3 plugs on first set

2 in the second set . Try Super Grips if you like the tread design of junk lites , the mudlites

have sidewalls as thin as grandma's support hose . The ITP Terra Cross aren't much better .

589's ? Just about Bullet proof from my experience , XTR's ? So far so good , 200 miles at H.Mc trails

and about 100 at windrock . But as stated , ANYTHING is better than stockers . Look for a true

6 ply tire , not a 6 ply "rating" , there is a difference .

I run a dirt road. So i've been looking into the Big Horn Radials. Anyone got any?[/b]

Mack450,
If you run dirt roads and trails most of the time and only see deep mud and snow a small percentage of the time, then I think an agressive mud tire would not make you happy. They look cool but most of them ride rough. If you spend most of your time on somewhat solid ground I would buy the Bighorns or Carlisle ACT radials.

I had swamp witches on my Foreman and had over 3000 miles and no plugs. Even had it stolen and they wrecked and busted the tie rod, axle and bent the rim in half. Put the witch back on a new rim and kept going. They last forever and wear really good and they did really good on the trails compared to everyone else. They werent too bad for mud either. Almost forgot, I took belt sander and sanded off the outside logo on all the tires.
