02 400 kodiak I noticed the bottom of the recoil housing is a little wet with oil. Whats behind the recoil that can leak oil and how big of a job is this to fix? thanks in advance for your help.:gcrules:

would this be the same fix for he 450 06 kodiak, I have oil residue at the botton of the pull start housing, not to bad of a leak but it is there.

So I pulled the pull start of my 06 450 kodiak and found out there is no seal even on the recoil housing, also looked and there is no possible way that oil can leak in there unless it is leaking further behind were the crank case bearing seal is. It was dry and there is no sign of leaking. So then I thought how the heck can oil get in there. The oil filter, when changing the oil filter some used oil could have leaked and ran down and collected at the bottom of the pull start housing. So I cleaned everything up and put back together, here are some pics

I had to take the bolt out of the middle in that pic and there was a seal behind there. But yours does not look like its leaking from there. I think civicgsr is on the right track.

need help thus the revival

I usually hate reviving an old thread but I need help here guys.

I have a fair amount of oil leaking from the bottom of the recoil housing. I realize it is likely a seal inside but I need help with the part and or part # so I can buy it and replace. Anyone able to help with this. A search online has me coming up blank. I am not mechanically stupid but far from gifted. With some good instructions and pics I'm usually okay. Please help.

The dealers have parts diagrams, or you can Google "yamaha oem parts". Go to one of those sites and look at parts diagrams
