i want to put in a jet kit on my 660, wondering what the procedure is to get the carb out? Whiteman sent me a link to the service manual download but i am on dial up and not working, like 5 minutes for the first page.

Yup. Just took my carb out the other day. Take off the front rack and the front platic that covers the front clutch intake snorkle. Take off the seat and the gas tank cover. take off the fuel shutoff valve (unscrews with a screw inside the hole). Unhook the throttle cable right at the handlebars. Unhook all the lines and unbolt the tank and lift it out.

Just installed a Dyno jet kit this weekend. Be sure to unhook the heat sensor wire from the white heat sheild. Be careful not to strip the heads of the screws for the bowls. I stripped 1 of the 2 on the vacuum chamber and 3 of the 4 on the floater bowl. Went back with some stainless steel socket head screws. Just in case, the vacuum chamber screws are 5mm X 10mm long and the floater bowl screws are 3 @ 4mm X 10mm long and 1 @ 4mm X 12mm long to hold the bracket for the idle adjustment.

I dont mess with the front rack or gas tank! I simply take off the seat and remove my airbox, loosen off on the front carb boot and pull it back and it will come out. You still have to shut off your fuel of course and remove the fuel line to carb, choke cable, and throttle cable. You can twist the carburetor sideways and take the bowl off if your able to get the screws out without stripping them.

Hmm thanks for the idea! When i did it i messed with the tank, not exactly the fastest trying to get all the stuff stuck back fitting properly around that white plastic sheild thing under the tank.
Will remember, as i havae a feeling im running lean atm.

Boy I feel a little stupid now, Ten years as a millwright and not sure I did the Qwickest way. I pulled the header pipe and exhaust. Start to finish Jet kit 4.5 hours !!
Go easy at least I'm honest!!!!!
Hey, the easy way is no fun!!!
