Stuck on the ice

Looing for some advise. I have a problem starting my 2007 700 Grizzly when it gets real cold. Its not the oil pick up I use Yamalube 0W40 and that solved the cold oil pick up problem I had last year. Now I have a problem with it starting every now and than when I am out ice fishing. After sitting and cooling down 0 degrees out I turn on the key and the fuel pump will not activate and when I push the start button the engine light comes on and blinks. Warm it up a little and the pump activates when the key is turned to on and it starts up just fine. Anyone have any ideas as to why the fuel pump will not activate when cold. Not fun having to be towed off the ice by a snowmobile.

Thanks

Read the other thread you replied to. That might help ya.

I did read the other thread but their problem is not the same as mine. When my Grizzly 700 is cold 0 degrees and a little wet with either snow or some slush from towing I turn the key to the on position and the fuel pump does not prime like it does when it normally starts. The red engine light comes on and blinks when it will not start. The battery was new last year I just got done checking it and it reads out at 12.4 volts. I also just cleaned the terminals and pulled all the fuses and all check out good. It is in the garage now and starts just fine (warm) I turn the key to the on position and the fuel pump primes, you can here it. Still looking for anyone who has had the same situation.

I know on the yamaha snowmobiles the fuel pump relay sticks when cold may be the same on the grizz

Thats what it sounds like.

If the battery is under 12.8 volts it needs to be charged.

any chance there could be a small amount of water in your fuel tank? maybe not enough to effect performance but enough to cause the fuel pump to freeze....

Mine turned out to be the fuel pump solenoid. Only happened when cold and would backfire. It was only allowing a small amount of fuel in. You could either crank it over a lot to warm it up or heat it up. The solenoid wasn't very expensive (under $25 cnd), and easy to switch. Guys were having the same problems in their yamaha nytro's as well.

Thanks to everyone. First off I have the battery on the charger over night and will check the voltage today to see if it is over 12.8 or not. Thanks.
Second I thought about water in the tank and added Heat to the tank a few days ago just in case. I will keep adding more as I add new fuel. I also use Stables Marine in all my ATV, UTV, boat motors, lawn mowers every 4 stroke motor I have, it has really helped over the years.
Third is the fuel pump solenoid? I have the Yamaha service manual for the 700 and can not find any mention of a fuel pump solenoid. There is a fuel injector fuse item 6 on page 9-1 that I have checked and it is good. There is a fuel injector relay item 3 on page 9-3, is this what you are calling the solenoid? The fuel injector relay is located up front under the removable hood, there are 3 relays located there the first one is the radiator fan relay, second one is the fuel injector relay and the third is the starter cut off relay. Do you have a Yamaha part number for the solenoid? Again thanks to everyone for their input.

It's the fuel injector relay. It's the middle one on the right side of the removable hood.

Change the FI relay and use contact cleaner on and dielectric grease the fuel pump & sending unit wire connector at the fuel pump.
