a lengthy combination of of pvc , flex pipe, couplers, self infusing silicone tape , high vibration permatex, rubber radiator hose pieces to hold the flex pipe in place and much patience

 

rustoleum makes a rubberized spray called flex seal that bonds to flex pipe nicely, since spray paint does not, I found out the hard way, lol View attachment 20620

found some nifty brackets on ebay sold as fuel pump and fuel filter brackets, billet aluminum is soo nice !

I opted to use the stock cvt intake and just extend it,even though its off centered, the coupler allowed me to center the riser, it seems pretty solid and a good design that leads away from the exhaust. Ive been studying write ups on the 450 snorkel and didnt trust most of them, they seemed sure to fail . For the air box Im thinking of cutting off the (hill) and fabricating a more flat top with some plexi glass or lexan, to allow room for the 90 to come out of it. I didnt want route above the exhaust but Im sure itll be safe with flexpipe inside rubber radiator hose wrapped with cool tape. Im limited on space so I might have to do a rad relocate before I install the riser for the airbox pipe.

I like the vent hoses, nice and clean on the stack. Orange and camo is always a good combination.
Is one stack for your airbox, just not routed all the way?

 

actually, I havent even started the airbox yet, I was too anxious to get the rest up, in the pics its just the cvt intake and exhaust, the center riser is capped off so its more of a dummy riser to hold the vent lines for the front and rear diff vents, the radiator overflow vent, the carb vent, and cooling fan ven vent. Im still on the drawing board on how to run the air box, and I really do not want to do the "nutbuster" style, lol , I can get a second airbox lid off ebay for 15$ to practice with for now, I just want to make sure it will not fail, its the most important one !

 

I gotcha. A spare is never a bad idea. I kind of like the look of nut busters myself, and the nice and short pipe flows good.

I still might do the nutbuster if I can find some foam to cover it nicely, but then I prob couldnt get it as high as the others with out it looking odd, idk, If no nutbuster then it would be the fourth riser and sit just above the other two , thing is I already know I wont be able to unless I relocate the radiator, there is no room, fan is in the way, and I havent been able to find a good write up for it either . 180$ is ridiculous for a rad relocate kit ! A few pieces of aluminum, two barbed couplers and extend the hoses, why so much ...

Thanks dezz, I really appreciate it ! I did alot of surfing and searching trying to think up a great looking snorkel and thats what I came up with :happy:

 

I dont know if you know this already or not, but instead of screen you could use outerwears in your snorkel tips. Can buy it in sheets on ebay, if you haven't ever heard of it Google it and there's a lot of info.

 

I did think of that, but ended up getting some material at Joanns called black casa, its much thinner than outerwears , I ended up spraying cut pieces of it with scotchguard waterproofing spray, held it in my hand like a cup and filled it with water, it stayed ! I got like 5 square ft for 5$ and cut it up in 5" x5" squares. attached by my wifes hairties, lol, all disposable ! The screen was more for looks and to stop chunks or large debris from falling in there .

 

Does that stuff flow good?

 

Outerwears was my first choice though, after pricing and not knowing if my sewing skills are that great , I went with the black casa material, it does not restrict any air flow and will hold water .

 

Awesome job, now just figure out how to replicate this for a few hundred 450 owners in a DIY kit and you'll be on your way. I agree with Dezz, best looking snorkel I've seen here yet and you have definitely let the OCD take over....we all share it with the Grizzlies.

this is how I did mine ,, I did not need to cut any of my plastics under the hood , so I can put it back to stock if I wanted to.. works Great !
