First Oil Change on my 2014 700

This weekend I did the first oil change on my grizz and everything was a breeze. I took my skid plates completely off to remove all the leaves and debris from underneath to discover I need to invest in some better skid plates and a taller set of tires. I have a little less than 400 miles on my machine and the skids are already beat up. In fact the front bash plate is already cracked. I still have the stock tires on but after seeing this I need to go with at least 26 inch tires and a better skid plate.

does anyone have the Yamaha plastic glide plate? part # 3B4-F84N0-T0-00 if so do you like it? or should I invest in ricochet or the Yamaha aluminum ones?

i made my own UHMW-PE skid out of 1/4" sheets. was a bit of work, but for 120 bucks i have full coverage including my floorboards. my favorite thing about it is its very quiet. i wouldnt know i was hitting rocks if it werent for the bone jarring impacts. its even quieter than the stock plates. ive only had them on for a hundred miles or so, but the only marks on them are barely more than scuffs.

As soon as mine wear out on my 2014 700 grizzly , i"am going to put that optional one that yamaha offers on . i think its all one piece from front to back with indents for the bolts that hold it up .

I've got a 50 dollar coupon for accessories so I can get that glide plate for under 200 bucks. I don't know how thick the stock skid plates are, but the 1 piece glide plate is 1/4" thick.

yeah, the oem one is a nice option.

sorry, i edited my post. i actually got the sheets for 120 from grainger. it was a better deal for me, but they are obviously homemade. when the machine is upright they look professional, but from the bottom they are a bit more "custom" haha.

the hardest part was the bends. i got a heat gun for the project and it was still a pita.

Thanks JCat! I will definitely look into the glide plate.

Maybe just some bigger tires? with my 27's I hardly hit the bottom

I was leaning to 25 inch bighorns but I think i'll go with 26's. especially since they run oversized.

Glad to see you're working the grizz.
