That's really good news and I agree would be nice to have the .pdf accessible for those who have 16-18 708cc with oil consumption. Bad part is there is nothing I can do to get it uploaded as I'm also limited to 19.5kb .pdf files :-/

Maybe PM an admin and ask them. I'd do it but only taking a quick break from my moving activities and need to get back at it.

Its good news, I am trying to find it on the official Yamaha website but cannot find it.
I am concerned that both of my 708 yamahas (2018) have VIN's that are not listed on the document.

Funny, just like I thought, new cyl bore, new piston, rings and pin...

I dont like the wording though where it needs to have "excessive oil consumption" which sucks for me potentially because it will only be a matter of time as mine does smoke on startup especially when cold and I am pretty darn sure the piston is "scuffing" the bore like they say.

I wish they would post it online for the rest of us to refer to when the dealer says there is nothing wrong with it...

As far as I know this was just released today at a dealership so it may take a few days to reach the website as I am sure dealers will be notified first before making it publicly known. I dont know why they dont list all the Vin's?? If you look this PDF was a Canada PDF file so there maybe more info coming for USA customers.

All of my Grizzlies have been fantastic machines - we have a whole bunch of Yamahas in my extended family (12 is the current count). My '16 Wolverine R-spec has had an oil burn issue since about 900 miles (1450 miles now) and I bought it brand new (the only 708 in my family). There is only one other machine that uses oil and it has been truly abused (belongs to my brother-in-law). I have the extended warranty but Yamaha fought me when I wanted it checked out and I had to foot the bill for labor at the dealer when I took it in since they gave me an ultimatum over the cause. They attributed my issue to carbon build-up from bad gas. I told them that I fill that machine from the same gas pumps/cans as my other machines and they don't burn oil. Needless to say, I wasn't very pleased. I'm glad to see this bulletin come through. I have a well-documented case that still needs to be resolved and I hope it goes smoothly when I do take it in. I will likely wait until Winter so I can document more consumption and make it through the riding season. In the end, I just want a machine that works like it should.

Stopped by Haucks Powersport yesterday. Ask about this bulletin as my Queens Kodi was using about 2oz of oil per 150-200 miles recently in S. Dakota. We were riding around 100-150 miles per day.

Was told that it is not a cut and dry fix just because the machine is listed.
They (dealer) will need tear down the machine, take pictures of the possible problem parts then send the pictures along with a report to Yamaha. The chance of being turned down is there if they see any damage related poor maintenance.
If Yamaha turns down the claim the owner will have to pay for the dealers work.

It will take about 2 weeks as the dealers will only receive the updated rebuild kits as each claim is approved.

All seems fair to me. Will be taking in her Kodi the end of October when our season is almost over.

@reogem - how many miles on The Mrs' Kodi? My Wolvy was going through about 5oz in ~100 miles. I had put in 15 oz of oil between 900 and 1200 miles. Then I took it in to the dealer. Yamaha recommended I try their Fuel Med RX gas treatment to see if it would help. Seemed to reduce oil consumption a bit but I just haven't had much time to ride it this Summer for more substantial info.

Same thing with me on my 2016 Wolverine. Same script between dealer and factory. Try to lay blame on customer to deny claim. I wonder how many claims have been allowed that used the same parts that will end up doing the same thing. So far I'm into 2 heads, 2 cylinders, 2 pistons, 3 sets of rings all out of pocket and smoking again. At this point I'll go with nflow for the parts and stay away from OEM Yamaha parts.

How can I get an update kit for my 2016 grizzly 708? I have a 2016 Grizzly 708 I rebuilt, before the rebuild it would burn oil so bad that it would be below the hash marks at a low of 50 miles. Now 1500 miles Into the piston cylinder rings rebuild it uses oil slowly but Im sure will get worse over time. I live in Alaska on a small Island and there are dealers in nome and in Anchorage. Do dealers know about this and wouldn’t Yamaha send a notify note through the post office? If this is not a lie of a bulletin update and is sure to happen I hope I can rebuild my sweet 708 grizzly thanks for the time.

While at my dealer today I asked them how many of the 708’s they had seen with the oil consumption problem and the service manager told me none. He said they sold hundreds of the 700 Grizzlies & Kodiaks during those years and none have had any oil issues but they are aware of the service bulletin for it.
